So I have this dark neck issue and I always thought it was the residuals of creams, ointments etc that i have used in the past that caused this. I tried various scrubs and I never manage to get rid of it. I’ve had comments that I was dirty and don’t wash my neck properly
There has been times where I’ve nearly scrubbed my neck to a bleeding point and STILL this dark patch or ring is around my neck. I have asked doctors, derms and specialists about this and they told me not to worry about it and one even said “oh your skin renews every three months so it will go away soon”. But I've had it for like over 10 years, it hasn’t “RENEWED”…???!!!………………………………… Then they change subject or your consultation time is up dear, we’ll monitor it and have another look at it at the next consultation.
Doesn’t this sound familiar in the allopathic medical community…. ANYWAYs…
I also used to have dark underarm pits and groin/inner thigh area (excuse me, TMI ) but this is considered as the same syndrome. I finally bloody researched about it. I found out it a condition called acanthosis nigricans and is drug induced (in my case). Guess what drug??!! STEROIDS!!
Dermnet NZ has a good general information page on acanthosis nigricans if anyone wants to read more: http://dermnetnz.org/systemic/acanthosis-nigricans.html
Acanthosis nigricans can be caused by several conditions and obviously my one is drug induced. There are benign and malignant acanthosis nigricans so if you have dark patches on your skin do get it checked out just to rule out anything risky.
My acanthosis nigricans is obviously improving, I don’t have dark patches under my arms and groin/inner thigh area anymore. i only have it on my neck. I’m sure it will go away one day with the TSW process
In the meantime, I found some natural remedies online that I might try out.
